frustration
I have recently taken up the task of configuring a VPN solution for accessing my network at home from work. I embarked with the assumption that I could install some generic package, drink a cup of tea, come back and poof….VPN….Not the case. I have since attempted multiple different software packages/protocols and have arrived at my final conclusion which is: its much less stressul to hand pluck each and every hair from my scalp than to configure a decent, fully functional/scalable VPN without any help.
So far the only solution I have been able to fully impliment has been OpenVPN which, after a couple days of configuration and testing, I have somewhat embraced. The only issue is a periodic loss in connection from the reinitiation of keys/certificates. I have yet to fix this problem and will not fully utilize this option until I do.
Aside from OpenVPN I have attempted installations of IPSEC/L2TP, OpenSwan, PPTP and SecVPN. I have all but given up on these as the configuration is a nightmare unless you really know what you’re doing; I apparently do not. Anyone stumbling upon this rambling with a good understanding of the these protocols/software packages on the Linux side I invite your guidence.
